Last Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVIII will long be remembered not only because the Seattle Seahawks routed the Denver Broncos, 43-8, but also because of Bruno Mars’ outstanding halftime performance. In fact, it currently is the most-watched Super Bowl halftime performance in history.

In a report that came out last Monday, February 3, Fox announced that Bruno Mars’ halftime performance attracted the largest audience in the history of Super Bowl, 115.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen data. This figure surpassed the record set by Madonna two years ago, which was 114 million, as well as Beyonce’s 110.8 million viewers from last year. Incidentally, the matchup between the Seahawks and the Broncos also saw the largest viewing audience in history – 111.5 million.

Many are speculating as to why Mars’ performance was such a hit. There could be many reasons why 115.3 million stayed glued to their televisions even during halftime. It could be his awesome drum solo as a way to kick off the halftime show. It could also be the amped-up takes on his hits “Locked out of Heaven”, “Treasure”, and “Runaway Baby”.
