Freddie Mercury | Michael Jackson | Music Monday

There must be more to life than this

By on October 22, 2011

This is an unreleased collaboration between Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson sometime between 1981-1983. There are other songs that the two recorded together but were all unreleased.

As a usual Michael Jackson song, this is full of feelings about the human condition. There are no other records pertaining to who wrote the song, none that I found googling but this is certainly one of the best songs I like coming from two great musicians.

I’ve never been to me

By on September 18, 2011

I now have a different appreciation of Charlene’s one hit wonder “I’ve never been to me.”  It’s been at times interpreted as a song of whores 😀 Well, it is on our part of the world so I never really took notice of the lyrics, I accidentally listened to it the other day and made me curious especially the spoken part that goes  “Hey, you know what paradise is? It’s a lie, a fantasy we create about people and places as we’d like them to be. But you know what truth is? It’s that little baby you’re holding, and it’s that man you fought with this morning; The same one you’re going to make love with tonight! That’s truth, that’s love……”

So for today I am featuring Charlene’s original version, a sleeper hit and the Japanese version whose message is the opposite of the former. The Japanese version is sang by a married woman and is often used as a wedding song. I included the lyrics in case you feel like singing.

Love is all/Ai Wo Kikasete
Shiina Megumi

Osanai koro ni egaiteta
Soshite itsu shika wasureta yume no tsuzuki ga
Anata ni atte ima azayaka ni
Kono mune ni michite iku ah mezameteku
Love is all
Onna nara nani yori mo ai wo erabu wa
Tatoe sore ga kurushimi demo kamawanai
Sou yo
Tookutemo taisetsu na mono ga mieru kara
Ikite ikeru
You know my love is true

Aenai yoru no kazu dake
Shinjiru koto wo oboete iku wa
Nageku koto yori nani ga dekiru ka wo
Kyou mo mata tashikamete ah me wo tojiru

Love is all
Dare datte yowai kara ai saretai wa
Itsu datte nukumori ga hoshiku naru
Dakedo
Anata igai no hito wa ai senai kara
Tsuyoku nareru
You know my love is true

Love is all
Ai dake wa koerareru subete no mono wo
Shinjitsu no ai naraba nemuranai
Sweet fairy
I’m waiting what you just take out me
It’s really my dream
I want the wedding bell
Tonight
Everything is you

I want the wedding bell
Everything is you

I want the wedding bell
Everything is you

Someone Like You – Adele

By on August 22, 2011

One of the most promising new singers of today, Adele’s voice is one that I’d hear over and over again especially in this song. Being dubbed as the new Amy Winehouse even before the demise of the latter, she’d surely make it big…although many suggest that her smoking won’t do her any good. I do hope that that sultry contralto voice of hers remain in the music scene for many more years….so good!

Tifa’s theme (Final Fantasy VII)

By on July 10, 2011

Aside from video games themselves, I like the themes that goes with the movies, the action sequence or simply the character introduction.

This is the piano version of Tifa’s theme. Tifa Lockhart is a member of the terrorist group AVALANCHE and owner of the 7th Heaven bar, Tifa is the childhood friend of Cloud Strife, the protagonist of Final Fantasy VII. Convincing him to join the group to keep him close and safe, she later assists him in saving the planet from the game’s villain, Sephiroth. She is hailed as a strong, independent and attractive female character as Lara Croft is in the world of video games.

Take me Home, Country Roads

By on June 26, 2011

This is one of the many songs that reminds me of my dad. This is John Denver’s version which I enjoy better than Olivia Newton John’s. The homey feeling that this song gives is always a welcome one…I am a country-girl after all.

The Japanese version of this is all the same beautiful and enjoyable to listen to, you can hear it from the video I posted here.

This song touches my heart…the lyrics, the tone and the over-all music. I listen to this song once in a while…not much because I always get teary-eyed.

Hallelujah

By on June 12, 2011

There are many versions of this song but Allison Crowe’s rendition is one of my favorites. I personally like the message of the songs sans the orgasmic intonation. Allusion to bible stories such as David eyeing Bathsheba, Samson and Delilah’s story are obvious and some interpreters view this as the meaning of hallelujah in this is sensual. For me, the meaning of Hallelujah will remain; Praise be to Jah, the short form of God’s name.
