Amp up the Fun With These Essentials

As fun as camping or attending a music festival can be, there is no arguing that the comforts of home are not going to fit in your duffel bag. Sure, the whole idea of camping it to be “roughing it,” but that doesn’t have to mean you have to be miserable the whole time. And if you are following your favorite jam band around the country, you might feel as though the regular accoutrements of life are out of your reach. Not so! With a little bit of smart packing, you can make your next Bumbershoot or Bonnaroo experience just a little higher on the luxury scale.

Personal Safety

No matter if you are camping in the wilderness or pitching a tent on the sand at Burning Man, there are a few items you need to have in order to keep yourself healthy and protected from the elements. Here are some things you should have in your bag.

  • Sunscreen: Save your skin from the sun’s burning rays. If you will be swimming or sweating, be sure to reapply the sunscreen periodically. It’s no fun to have to hide in your tent and miss out on the festivities because you got crisped on the first day.
  • Hat and sunglasses: These are no-brainers for festivals or camping. They both can allow you to stay outside longer and more comfortably.
  • Refillable water bottle: Staying hydrated will be key to extending your fun.

Gear Essentials

Your “living” arrangements at the Lockn’ Festival may be rudimentary at best, but you still need some essentials for comfort. Make sure to load these gear items into the back of your van.

  • Sleeping bag or hammock: If you are lucky enough to have a place to hang it, a hammock is a comfortable sleeping option. At the very least, pack a sleeping bag that will keep you warm overnight.
  • Clothing and shoes: Be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at you with a variety of light and heavy garments. If hiking is on the camping agenda, be sure to bring some sturdy boots.
  • Safety wallet: Things can get hectic at music festivals, and you don’t want your wallet to be easily accessible to other attendees. Keep thing close to the chest with a body wallet worn on your arm or around your waist.

Personal Fun

Now, when preparing for a party, you may want to have a few tools available to heighten the experience. Everyonedoesit has more than a few party essentials worthy of the long haul, including the following:

  • Vape Pens: Keep your aromatherapy consumption under control with a personal vape pen that only you can easily disguise during the festival.
  • Glow sticks: They are both fun to look at and great for helping find friends in a crowd.
  • Flashlight: Keep yourself safe and your path clear with a good flashlight and backup batteries.

Before you get in the car and head to your favorite music festival or camping site, make sure to pack these essentials to keep the experience enjoyable and yourself safe.

Famous Rock Sideman Steps Out On His Own

By on April 29, 2015

Rock and roll is famous for its wild image and the instant celebrity of many of its most famous icons. After all, when you look back at some of the best and brightest stars of the past half century, many of them will be classic rock and roll musicians.

Jim Morrison and John Lennon rank up there with James Dean and Marilyn Monroe as immortal images, and there are many more where they came from. However, new faces are appearing in the limelight who the average man on the street may not be aware of – until now.

Stepping Into The Limelight

One of the brightest of these new faces is Boyd Tinsley. While not quite a household name as of yet, one thing is certain: Mr. Tinsley certainly has the musical chops, bright, inspiring personality, and good looks to pull off a quick rise to the top of the heap.

As the lead violinist and backing vocalist of the world famous Dave Matthews Band, Boyd has long been a commanding presence on the live musical stage. Now it appears that Mr. Tinsley is determined to step out on his own and blaze a new path toward celebrity status.

Playing Hooky At Grand Central

Tinsley has released one solo album in the past, a critically celebrated album entitled, “True Reflections.” While the release was immediately hailed by pundits and fans alike as a major event in the world of rock and pop, Tinsley has not yet seen fit to record a true follow up.

However, he has been making a steady round of appearances, both with and without the “support net” of the Dave Matthews organization. A recent triumph was celebrated at Grand Central Station, when Mr. Tinsley decided to regale subway riders with an impromptu solo performance.

From Tinsel Town To Tinsley Town

It seems that Tinsley received the inspiration of playing free for subway users in order to “road test” some new material, as well as to play a good natured prank on Dave Matthews Band fans who may not have been equipped to recognize Tinsley so far out of his natural element.

In any case, the impromptu “busking” performance was a smash success, and was captured on video. The “viral” nature of this Grand Central Station performance has ensured that a whole new generation of music loving fans will soon be very aware of Mr. Tinsley and his inimitable musical skills.

Music Festivals: Still One of the Best Ways to Find Good Music

By on November 28, 2014

Future Music Festival 2013

The Music Industry in the Modern Age has not changed very much from 30 years ago. There are still music festivals that people flock to. There are still albums being produced but instead of the music being on albums, they are digital or on a CD. CD’s are becoming less and less popular, however. While the industry has not changed much at the core, technological innovations have created change for the better.

Music Reaching All Over The Globe

Music can now be heard all over the world. That was once a dream. Music has brought people together in modern times more than it ever did in the past. People have come together with songs from the Beetles and other influential artists. Some people may say that music quality has decreased but if the time is really taken to examine the talent in the world, most people would not believe that.

Who Is Finding The Next Great Artists?

There are many music producers and talent searchers out in the world every day searching for the next big thing. Some producers are only looking for acts that will bring in a lot of money. There are a few left, however, that are looking for the artists who will be major influences and have the ability to change the world. One of these producers is  Jordan Kurland, a partner in the Noise Pop Festival. Kurland is involved in a number of other music festivals and even found a way to get music involved in the recent Presidential election. These artists may one day be compared to Michael Jackson, The Who, and other well-known acts that have changed the world through songs.

Where Can You Hear These Types OF Artists?

The artists who make you think because of something they said in a song are not easily found but they are in the world and they want to be heard. Some of these artists are on the radio today but listeners may not have heard them through the excess noise that are put on to make money. Some common places to find these acts who are going to make a difference are at music festivals. These are the musical acts who are wanting to make a difference and really be heard. If you are a music lover, do yourself and the musical acts a favor and attend a festival or two. You never know what new music you will fall in love with. It may just change your life.

A Cool Yet Functional Event and Concert “Accessory”

By on March 15, 2014

image via

Organizing musical events take a lot of time, money, and energy.  It also takes a lot of creativity not only to make the events more exciting but also to make the event easier to manage.  It’s a good thing that there are modern tools that are available today to help event organizers.  If runners have RFID tags, the concert world has Tyvek coloured wristbands to make admission and guest monitoring tasks more manageable.  These wristbands come in various bold colors that make them “cool” to wear; the fluorescent kind even glows under blacklighting.  Event organizers can also choose to customize the wristbands for their event in their own design.  The makers of these wristbands have designers on board to help event organizers come up with unique creative designs.

There are clear advantages of using these wristbands both for the event organizers and for the event participants.  For one, there is no need to keep on asking for IDs or ticket stubs from the guests every time they enter and re-enter the event venue.  It’s quite a bit of a hassle to fumble through your purse for a small stub to get back into a club or concert hall.  It’s even more of an inconvenience if you lose your stub.  With a wristband, you simply have to flash your arm at the personnel manning the entrance.  Since it’s fastened to your wrist, you are not likely to lose your stub.

This is obviously a better way for concert organizers to control who gets in and out of the event venue.  There’s no need to hold back the line to inspect IDs when all they have to do is to look at the wristband.  These wristbands are so affordable and easy to use.  It’s strong and durable too, so event organizers are sure that they cannot easily be tampered with.  The synthetic material that it is made of does not stretch or tear easily.  The option to customize these wristbands offers event organizers or venue managers another event merchandise to offer to the concert goers.  These wristbands actually make great souvenirs for the event.  It serves its function both during and after the event.  These cool event wristbands will surely add color and excitement to any event without putting a dent on the event organizers and the concert goers budgets.

Bruno Mar’s Halftime Performance at the 2014 Super Bowl XLVIII

By on February 4, 2014

Last Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVIII will long be remembered not only because the Seattle Seahawks routed the Denver Broncos, 43-8, but also because of Bruno Mars’ outstanding halftime performance. In fact, it currently is the most-watched Super Bowl halftime performance in history.

In a report that came out last Monday, February 3, Fox announced that Bruno Mars’ halftime performance attracted the largest audience in the history of Super Bowl, 115.3 million viewers, according to Nielsen data. This figure surpassed the record set by Madonna two years ago, which was 114 million, as well as Beyonce’s 110.8 million viewers from last year. Incidentally, the matchup between the Seahawks and the Broncos also saw the largest viewing audience in history – 111.5 million.

Many are speculating as to why Mars’ performance was such a hit. There could be many reasons why 115.3 million stayed glued to their televisions even during halftime. It could be his awesome drum solo as a way to kick off the halftime show. It could also be the amped-up takes on his hits “Locked out of Heaven”, “Treasure”, and “Runaway Baby”. On the other hand, it might have been his mid-performance split. Of course, we’re not discounting the fact that it might have been due to the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ shirtless cameo.

Things really got rocking as soon as Red Hot Chili Peppers joined Bruno Mars onstage. He sang Give it Away with RHCP lead singer Anthony Kiedis, executed awesome James Brown dance moves, and rocked Police riffs. Quite honestly, the 28-year-old multiple Grammy Award winner could have passed as a rock star if it hadn’t been for his gold jacket and signature hairdo. Mars concluded his halftime performance with his hit ballad, “Just the Way You Are”.

It seems there really is no stopping Bruno Mars. Just a day after his outstanding performance, his second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox reclaimed the number 1 spot on iTunes. To think that just last month, he bested the likes of Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Justin Timberlake, and Robin Thicke and took home the Best Pop Vocal Album award at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.

Watching his performance was like a reminder of his recent concert in October – Moonshine Jungle Tour….yes, it was like a concert I kept laughing when I saw a meme that says, “Apparently, there was a football game at the Bruno Mars concert.” ^_^

Frozen’s “Let It Go” Mashup in 25 Languages (with lyrics)

By on January 22, 2014

frozen anna elsa
Elsa and Anna

The adorable and awards-nominated theme song of the Disney movie, Frozen, is surely one to be a favorite. For some time now, the version by Idina Menzel, who voiced Elsa in the movie, along with the official versions of the songs and fansubs in other languages are getting mashups and those around youtube. And Disney finally featured a video with 25 different languages of the songs’ lines in. (Counting Spanish – Castillian, Latin American and Catalan separately.)

Fascinated, my 7-year-old son edged me to compile the lyrics, understanding only English, German and Japanese…(add Spanish to mine), he said it’s quite unfair that we can’t sing it wholly. So here’s what we came up. Still missing some but will surely update soon! (Pronunciation is definitely a challenge so try listening first before singing along. ^_^ )

letitgocomplete24 550

While the lyrics considerably changed in meaning…to either go well with the music and the fact that it isn’t so nice to translate word for word, this one is really amusing and amazing! Truly proves  music can bring people of different languages closer.

We would appreciate correction and such. Thank you!

Thank you for the help, Min (added Canadian French).
Thank you, Karin. (added Serbian).
Still fixing this post for foreign language characters to show. ^_^

Make your Guitar Learning Experience Worthwhile

By on December 31, 2013

Are you unhappy with your current ability to play guitar, and are you wondering what you can do to get better? Many people who would want to learn would just go to the local shop, buy a guitar, learn the basics, and then stop learning afterwards. Once they can play a few chords or a few songs, the excitement wears off and they never reach the level of ability that they desire. However, anyone can become an awesome guitar player if they are willing to put in a bit of time and energy, and these tips can help you get to be as good as you want to be.

learning guitar
keep going

1. Commit to practicing every single day.

You do not have to spend hours each day doing nothing but playing guitar. You lead a busy life, so you probably do not have time for that. However, do you have twenty minutes to spare? All you need to do is cut out one TV show and spend that time playing guitar. The consistency is the key. If you do this for 20 minutes every single day, you will see a rapid increase in your skills, and playing guitar will get to be as fun again as it was when you first started.

2. Learn songs that you already like.

Sometimes it is a good idea to do lessons and learn the technical aspects of the craft, such as playing scales. However, you want playing guitar to be fun; when you are having a good time, you are more likely to do it every day, which is what is going to help you improve. Learn songs that you already like by the bands that you love. You will be inspired to play and you will really enjoy yourself, even when it takes a while to break down a song and learn each part, and so you will be driven to success.

3. Make sure that you get worthwhile equipment.

You do not need to run out and spend thousands of dollars on a guitar, but you also do not want to buy the cheapest guitar that you can find. The low-end equipment just does not sound as good. It falls out of tune more often and makes it sound like you are a worse guitar player than you are. You want equipment that makes you sound your best so that you can really see if you are making progress.
