Jessica Sanchez’ version of Dance with My Father

To those who have lost their father earlier on, this song surely will bring tears to their eyes…it did to me. Jessica’s rendition of this Luther Vandross’ hit connected well the emotions that the song strongly portrays. I’ve once featured another version of this song on this blog and was so glad that Jessica picked it for her American Idol Season 11 Top 6 performance.

Many Idol contestants have sung this before but the judges would all agree that Jessica’s version is so far the best. Am no AI judge but I agree too!

Ai Se Eu Te Pego (Ah when I get my hands on you)

Coming from the jazz dance class, my kids would suddenly burst to a song that goes “Nossa, nossa” – followed by lyrics I wasn’t so sure of. It’s not German nor English and I was hearing the word mata which is Filipino for eyes and thought, might be Spanish but the Spanish word for eyes is ojo.

So I search here and there and really, mom-me is so late to know. The song is Ai Se Eu Te Pego by Brazilian sertanejo singer and song writer Michel Teló. The song has gained international fame, most particularly in Europe, as footballers wold often dance to it after a goal…

My daughter will be dancing to this in one of their performances for the jazz dance class.  So here’s the lyrics to it and the English version, heard Telo singing it in English but I’d prefer the original in Portuguese.

Nossa, nossa
Assim você me mata
Ai, se eu te pego,
Ai, ai, se eu te pegoDelícia, delícia
Assim você me mata
Ai, se eu te pego
Ai, ai, se eu te pego

Sábado na balada
A galera começou a dançar
E passou a menina mais linda
Tomei coragem e comecei a falar

Nossa, nossa
Assim você me mata
Ai, se eu te pego
Ai, ai se eu te pego

Delícia, delicia
Assim você me mata
Ai, se eu te pego
Ai, ai, se eu te pego

Wow, wow
You’re gonna kill me that way
Ah when I get my hands on you, (poor you)
Ah when I get my hands on you, (poor you)Delicious, delicious
You’re gonna kill me that way
Ah when I get my hands on you, (poor you)
Ah when I get my hands on you, (poor you)

Saturday party night
Everyone began to dance
The hottest girl of the place passed me by
So I got the guts up and began to say to her

Wow, wow
You’re gonna kill me that way
Ah when I get my hands on you, (poor you)
Ah when I get my hands on you, (poor you)

Delicious, delicious
You’re gonna kill me that way
Ah when I get my hands on you, (poor you)
Ah when I get my hands on you, (poor you)

Jessica Sanchez got saved

Posted by on Apr 13, 2012 in American Idol | 1 comment

American Idol turns into a shocking night when season favorite Jessica Sanchez almost got booted out.

Jessica sang Jazmine Sullivan’s ballad “Stuttering” for this episode’s theme song of this decade. Perhaps not her best performance this season, alright, but it was as Randy said, ridiculous that she’d be at the bottom and be sent home that night.

Jennifer Lopez obviously didn’t agree, she went up the stage followed by the other 2 judges. She stole Jessica’s mic as the latter sang Deborah Cox’s “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here,” ironically.

“You’re not going home! This is crazy! We’re using the save!” says Lopez. Randy added “This girl is one of the best singers in America — are you kidding me?! Please everybody, please vote for the best!” Judges are allowed to use one save – to let a singer they deem worth winning to stay.

So Jessica will be seen in the next episode which means 2 other contestants will be eliminated…hope this time voters get to vote the best!
