Zucchero – Hai Scelto Me/You’ve Chosen Me

By on September 24, 2011

Italian Adelmo Fornaciari, Commander (Order of Merit of the Italian Republic) or more popularly known as Zucchero is a personal favorite. His music is largely inspired by gospel, blues and rock music, and just as his stage name, Zucchero – Italian for sugar, suggests; his voice is sweet, soothing and subtle.

Hai Scelto Me is one of his songs that I dearly like…especially when rendered as a wedding song. I’ve been trying to find another video or an mp3 at least of the English version but to no avail. I have always been listening to this one, a video depicting the love of Pirates of the Caribbean’s Davy Jones and Tia Dalma.

You’ve chosen me, oh no
When it happens
I’ve chosen you,
I don’t know
When it happens

Changes my life to a love song
This love is so strong
You’ve chosen me
And now that I, I’ve

I’ve chosen you
Oh, oh, my love
Let it happen
Changing my life to a love song

Changing my life to a love song
This road is so long
I’m a runaway train going off the rails
My love is so strong

I don’t know why, if you
You’ve chosen me
Oh, pass my way If it happens..

Zachary Levi and Cobie Smulders – The Emmingtons

By on September 21, 2011

The Emmys did a cappella. Emmys’ producers wanted something different and so they created a musical group called the Emmingtons (the Emmy tones). The group introduced four of the major Award categories (the drama, comedy, reality and miniseries) by singing. The Emmingtons were Chuck star Zachary Levi, Community’s Joel McHale, NCIS: Los Angeles’ LL Cool J, Person of Interest’s Taraji P. Henson, Awake’s Wilmer Valderrama, How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders and The Office’s Kate Flannery.

The guys were clad in black-gold suits and the ladies in turkish dress tubes making the ensemble so cute. And yes, their acts were as cute as they look.

I’ve never been to me

By on September 18, 2011

I now have a different appreciation of Charlene’s one hit wonder “I’ve never been to me.”  It’s been at times interpreted as a song of whores 😀 Well, it is on our part of the world so I never really took notice of the lyrics, I accidentally listened to it the other day and made me curious especially the spoken part that goes  “Hey, you know what paradise is? It’s a lie, a fantasy we create about people and places as we’d like them to be. But you know what truth is? It’s that little baby you’re holding, and it’s that man you fought with this morning; The same one you’re going to make love with tonight! That’s truth, that’s love……”

So for today I am featuring Charlene’s original version, a sleeper hit and the Japanese version whose message is the opposite of the former. The Japanese version is sang by a married woman and is often used as a wedding song. I included the lyrics in case you feel like singing.

Freddie Mercury – a complex piece on Google Doodle

By on September 5, 2011

Once in a lifetime we get to know talents that we would look back to because they’re gone too early – by illness, accident or drug overdose or murder…talk about Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Freddie Mercury…much younger would be Karen Carpenter, Bob Marley, Lisa Lopes, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain and recently, Amy Winehouse (making it to the 27 Club – musicians who died at the age of 27 along with the previous 3 and others). Not even reaching 25 were Aaliyah and Selena. We have long wondered what would their careers have been if they hadn’t died early.

So today, Google Doodlers launched a tribute to Queen’s lead vocalist Freddie Mercury,  “one of rock’s greatest all-time entertainers”, who possessed “one of the greatest voices in all of music” – characterized by AllMusic…A legend to himself, no other singer had that voice “escalating within a few bars from a deep, throaty rock-growl to tender, vibrant tenor, then on to a high-pitched, perfect coloratura, pure and crystalline in the upper reaches” (David Bret).

Kiss Me (Japanese Version)

By on September 4, 2011

I don’t need to repeat how hubby and I like singing along Japanese pop or romantic songs. Our ipods contain mostly them and MJs. So when this came out he was like “you have to listen to this.” The song is sang by the original singers Sixpence None the Richer but in Japanese and everything went well, not sounding forced…

So here’s the lyrics if you feel like singing along:

Kiss me
Mugiho no hodori
Nightly kusa na namima
Futari hane hiroge
Omekashi wo shite odorou

Oh, kiss me
Awai yamiyo ni lead me
Tsuki wo matteru yo
Hora gora n
Kaze ga utatte hoshi ga odori hajimeta
So, kiss me

Kiss me
Himitsu no shiro de
Swing me taiya no fune
Hana no boushi wo motte
Anata no papa no yume e

Oh, kiss me
Awai yamiyo ni lead me
Tsuki wo matteru yo
Hora gora n
Kaze ga utatte hoshi ga odori hajimeta
So, kiss me

Oh, kiss me
Awai yamiyo ni lead me
Tsuki wo matteru yo
Hora gora n
Kaze ga utatte hoshi ga odori hajimeta
So, kiss me
